Dorchester, MA Study
The Dorchester Study was very interesting. The children were very willing to participate however, the adults in charge of the center, felt that food was not important. As most of these children were from low-income families, they depended on the center to become a major focus in helping them learn new food concepts. We learned from this study that children want help, yet many adults feel it is too difficult to provide healthy food for these fragile minds and bodies. From this experience the handbook, "Powerful Foods for Powerful Minds and Bodies" was developed. Once again we were able to show the severity of fatty acid deficiencies in children today.
